Opportunity to join IOSH Nominations Committee

21 October 2016

Joining IOSH’s Nominations Committee would be an “excellent career step”, its Vice-Chair has said.

Graham Frobisher

The committee is responsible for recommending appointees to the Board of Trustees and other standing committees in the IOSH governance structure.

It currently has a number of vacancies and IOSH members at all levels are invited to apply.

Graham Frobisher CFIOSH, Vice-Chair of the Nominations Committee, said: "It is one of IOSH's key strategic committees. It would be an excellent career step for members. If they are looking to do something requiring a different skillset then I would encourage them to apply."

The committee ensures that the most suitable candidates fill the key roles within IOSH's governance structure via a fair and open process which includes shortlisting and interviewing against specific competencies.

Graham was recently re-elected to the committee having already served three years. Previous to that, he was on the Research Committee for six years, latterly as its Chair.

He said: "After my six years on the Research Committee was up, I wanted to continue that close association with the management of IOSH. There was a vacancy with the Nominations Committee so I successfully applied for that. I have had recruitment experience in my job so I felt it was an ideal opportunity and I would be able to use that experience.

"It has been an excellent experience, one I would recommend to other IOSH members. The committee meets once a year to discuss its processes and is always looking at ways to enhance and improve, taking on board feedback from members.

"The main commitment however is dealing with the recruitment to the Board and standing committees. The process includes reading through the applications and then having a conference call with other Nominations Committee members to discuss them and draw up a shortlist. A panel of three is then selected to do the interviews, and together agree recommendations for appointment. We also give feedback to unsuccessful candidates."

Nominations Committee members are required to have specific competencies and qualities: an understanding of the environment and market in which IOSH operates; an understanding of IOSH's governance structure; in-depth knowledge and proven experience in recruitment and selection practice; and up-to-date CPD at all times.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 16 February. Click here for more information.
