If you answered yes, then please consider joining IOSH's Council in 2017.

As a member of Council, you can represent the views of your fellow members; you can debate key strategic, professional and policy issues; and you can help choose who the next President of the Institution will be.

If this sounds interesting, now is the time to act. Nominations have already opened for the 2017 election to Council.

To be nominated, each candidate needs to be proposed by two other members, or a network. Nominations must be received by noon on Friday 26 May.

Later this year, a ballot will be conducted to elect 12 Council members, who will join after the Institution's AGM at November's Networks Conference. Successful candidates will serve for three years.

Mary Lawrence, an Affiliate member of IOSH is an existing member of Council. She said: "Joining Council has provided me the opportunity to help shape a modern IOSH, to reflect member views on the role of the organisation and opportunities, and to feedback on what my corporate clients feel about their health and safety professionals - to help think about how that can be used by IOSH members.

"From a professional perspective, Council provides a valuable networking and development opportunity where I can use members and staff as a sounding board when looking at health and safety issues within my own practice."

Fellow Council member James Quinn, who is also a committee member of the UAE Branch, said: "CPD and worker welfare are the issues that affect us most in the UAE and I wanted to highlight them to Council.

"Council is a wonderful vehicle to bring discussion, sometimes robust and passionate, and is an open forum to debate these issues. Meeting these amazing individuals that give up their time so passionately to help others will improve me as a health and safety professional; that's why I am involved."
