27 February 2018

Delegates from the Foundation Center for Safety and Health at Work (FCBZR) in Bulgaria conducted a benchmarking visit to IOSH.

Ljupcho Kochovski and Ekaterina Borisova met with representatives from across IOSH’s directorates, with a particular focus on the membership CPD scheme.

FCBZR aims to enhance safety and health in workplaces across Bulgaria, by increasing the knowledge and competence of OSH professionals and promoting them across industries.

It is seeking to liaise with bodies in different countries, including with IOSH, leading to the visit from 12-14 February.

Ljupcho and Ekaterina heard from IOSH’s Professional Services directorate on how members’ CPD is organised, with a view to possibly implementing a similar system for safety and health professionals in Bulgaria.

Ljupcho said that currently FCBZR members have to attend one course a year. It is felt this is not sufficient.

He said:

"We would like to somehow implement in Bulgaria the CPD system for our members.

"The world is changing. There are new technologies being introduced, which brings with it new risks.

"CPD allows IOSH members to continuously upgrade their professional knowledge in this area, which means they are continuously aware about what's going on."

They also heard an update on IOSH’s No Time to Lose campaign, which they are a supporter of. They have translated campaign materials into Bulgarian and shared it with their members across their 13 clubs (branches).
