Richard was Director of Leisure Safety for Capita, now retired.

Previously an Environmental Health Officer for 18 years, he has specialised in Leisure Safety for over 25 years, since his Chairmanship of the original HSE's Guide to 'Health Safety and Welfare at Pop Concerts and similar Events' - otherwise known as The Purple Guide.

He is recognised as a leading worldwide authority in this field and sat on the  Editing panel for the review of the current edition of The Purple Guide.

He is ex Chairman of the Event Services Association and of the Events Industry Forum and is currently the President of the National Outdoor Events Association, Chairman of IOSH Sports Grounds and Events Group, member of HSE's Joint Advisory Group for Entertainment and member of the Safety Advisory Group for Events as well as being a Director of the Institute of Event Management. He is currently involved in some high profile legal cases as an expert witness.

He is very proud to be a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety.

Richard teaches the only Diploma in Britain in Event Safety Management and is actively involved in validation of Event Management qualifications in higher education. Richard has also been involved in many publications on Event Safety Management and is an experienced public speaker.
