Chair's update

Message from the Chair – December 2017 – January 2018

Welcome to my last update for 2017. A very eventful year for the group with the visit from delegates from the Kosovo Railways to the UK to see health and safety in action and to share best practice; along with my visit to Kazakhstan and KTZ to also share best practice and see the different ways of safety within the railway network.

We also had the IOSH Railway Group conference in Nottingham, slightly earlier than in previous years, that attracted over 120 delegates again, which was great to see, and we also found another worthy winner that has helped keep our members safe. Certainly within the industry it has been a year of contrasts and talk of change, but how much will be safety orientated?

Future Events and Venues in 2018

Having sat down with the members of the Committee, we are now busy planning events for 2018 with the first around April, if things go to plan it will be on the Gloucester & Warwickshire railway – so keep your eyes open for details both on the Railway Group microsite and also on our Group Linkedin.

Having held successful events outside of London, we are looking to continue this idea and are hoping to be able to hold at least 2 away from the capital. We have also been promoting the webinars so please see if you can join in on one of those.

As I said in my last update, to hold events we need railway venues and willing volunteers, so if you and your companies want to assist with events or venues then please feel free to get in touch. The more help with the events and their planning the more it helps us to meet your ideas and needs.

Finally - Thanks

To finish I would like to say thank you to all of you, our members, for taking the time to read this and for being part of the Railway Group, This will be the last Chairs update for me, having now been Chair of the Group for the past 3 years in March, and it will be time for me to step aside and the new Chair step up on 1st April 2018 .

So as we turn the page in our diaries to 2018, we as the IOSH Railway Group, look forward to seeing you at one of our events in 2018 and being a part of the future. Have a great seasonal break, enjoy Christmas and have a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.
