Offshore best practices

These websites give access to a range of good practices/standards. Most are free to download.

Step Change in Safety is the UK based partnership with the remit to make the UK the safest Oil and Gas Exploration and Production province in the world.

It is charged with achieving this vision through cooperation, collaboration, sharing and adopting of best practices and learnings. The Step Change website is a key resource in enabling that sharing and, in the spirit of co-operation, all are invited to use it to share and contribute regardless of industry or country. Anyone may access all parts of the site and read and download resources, but you need to register to contribute news items or to take part in the discussion forums.

The International Association of Oil & Gas producers (IOGP) is a unique global forum in which members identify and share best practices to achieve improvements in every aspect of health, safety, the environment, security, social responsibility, engineering and operations. IOGP publications (searchable by topic) provide authoritative standards for onshore and offshore upstream operations, some are joint with IOGP’s sister organisation IPIECA which covers the downstream sector. These publications are particularly helpful for upstream operating organisations that do not publish their own internal design and operating HSE standards – but can also be used as a basis for such standards.

The Energy Institute (EI) is a professional body for the energy industry, delivering good practice and professionalism across the depth and breadth of the sector (i.e. not just health and safety). The EI publications catalogue includes both good practices and training courses, most are priced.
