Offshore Group joint event with Edinburgh Branch

The challenges and solutions being identified predominantly within the renewables industry when faced with the challenge of managing windfarm construction.

On the 23 March 2017 the Offshore Group ran a joint event with the Edinburgh Branch at their base at Edinburgh Napier University, in the stunning Siegfried Room. The event, well attended by both Branch and Group members, discussed the challenges and solutions being identified predominantly within the renewables industry when faced with the challenge of managing windfarm construction.

The first speaker was Anna Marit Hansen (Statoil & G+ Focal Group leader) who discussed the lessons that had been learnt from their colleagues in oil and gas and how they had been applied into in the renewable industry, in particular in the construction and management of the Sheringham Shoal windfarm.

This was followed by the Groups own Mark Jenkins (Siemens / Offshore Group Vice Chair) who shared personal experiences and approaches focused upon the management of contractors, as well as some of his key learnings about how to be successful as a contractor in meeting client expectations and demands.

Within the third session Mike Cowie (Offshore Group Committee Member) shared with the group some of the staggering challenges that are faced when required to undertake scaffolding offshore. The session looking at amazing scenarios both onshore during construction of rigs, and offshore when trying to support ongoing operations offered the delegates amazing insight into some of the challenges that are faced.

The final session, delivered by Andrew Sykes of G+. Andrew discussed the work and attention being paid by the G+ with its member companies to identify and manage health and safety within the renewables industry.

We hope to have each of the presentations available to you in the coming weeks and would like to thank all of those who attended the afternoon, and each of the speakers for their efforts leading up to and during the event.

We look forward to seeing some of you at our next event at Jury’s Inn in Aberdeen on the 15 May 2017.
