Guide for offshore renewables heliops

24 June 2016

A new publication from Renewable UK covers how to plan and manage helicopter operations over the full lifecycle of a UK offshore project. It notes that, for personnel transport, including emergency response, practices are very similar to those for offshore oil & gas. In addition there may be specialist activities, e.g. equipment and people hoisting, that are quite different.

The guidance is designed for the non-specialist, so provides a good overview of relevant regulator and other stakeholder bodies. There are several Annexes that cover project planning and good operational practices in detail. It’s free to download, so could be a useful training aid for anyone in the oil and gas sector who needs a quick introduction to this area of risk, and the associated controls. The two example bow-tie diagrams are a good starting point for someone in that position.
