2017 Annual Conference Review

The Offshore Group’s Annual Conference was held at RRS Discovery in Dundee on the 19th October 2017. The event was opened by Jake Molloy of the National Union or Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, discussing the importance of employee engagement, which served as an ongoing theme throughout the event.

The event was opened by Jake Molloy of the National Union or Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, discussing the importance of employee engagement, which served as an ongoing theme throughout the event.

With a record attendance for the event with speakers from HSE, MAIB, RAIB, IMCA, HSL & the Wood Group the conference explored four key areas of focus for a Health & Safety Practitioner:

  • Accident Investigation.
  • Occupational Health & Well-being.
  • Workforce Engagement.
  • Risk Management.

The event was supplemented by an IOSH Presidential address from Karen McDonnell (Immediate Past President).

Throughout the day the delivery of the Conference program Group Chair - Simon Hatson with Vice Chair - Mark Jenkins who emphasised to the delegates how critical feedback from the 2016 Conference in the selection of topics and speakers as well as the choice of venue, and how this approach will again be utilised as the Committee begin the preparations for the 2018 event.

Feedback received from the day has already been reviewed by the Committee and the IOSH Events team, and suggestions for topics for 2018 conference are being considered.

The event was wonderfully supported by the venue and its representatives with many delegates taking the opportunity to visit the RRS Discovery as well as a full complement of sponsors for the event.
