Massive explosion in Puerto Rico, 2009

1 March 2016

The US Chemical Safety Board have recently issued their recommendations and a video about this incident, which had many similarities with the UK Buncefield explosion in 2005. The CSB conclude that neither regulators nor relevant industry bodies in USA had taken on board several key lessons learned from the Buncefield investigation. If you work outside UK have process safety standards for petroleum storage tanks been suitably reviewed and improved since Buncefield?

You can learn more about this accident (no fatalities, but huge damage), and two other major process accidents in Algeria and China, at the next FABIG Technical meeting in early March, in Aberdeen, London or via webcast. If you work for a FABIG member organisation, attendance is free. If not you have to pay.
