Bhopal 30th Anniversary

9 December 2014

On the 30th Anniversary of the fatal chemical release that killed thousands in Bhopal, India, a Chemical Safety Board (CSB) safety message warns it could happen again. CSB Chairperson says more must be done to improve process safety regulations in the U.S. to prevent the next accident from occurring.

If you’re not familiar with the original event, search for Bhopal Disaster on Wikipedia. And, in case you think it’s only the U.S. regulations and process safety practices that need to improve, ask yourself and others what’s happening in your organisation to ensure there’s just as much emphasis and priority for key process safety actions and plans now as there was a few months ago when the oil price was twice what it is now?

The CSB Bhopal Anniversary video shows how old accidents keep recurring, though the exact consequences may change.
