Experience obtained wholly within the private sector, and mainly within the steel, general manufacturing and industrial sectors, also incorporating distribution and warehousing.

I have never been employed as a H&S Manager, gaining all experience as an independent advisor then consultant. I have been working in H&S since 2005/6. I work with all client staff levels – board to shopfloor, and all points in between.  I undertake considerable mentoring and coaching activities with clients. I write training courses, learning events & presentations for clients and deliver accredited courses when required.  All the usual H&S ‘stuff’, but with a business perspective born of my 25 preceding years of functional and General Management responsibilities in large companies.

Areas of specialism and interest

My OH&S degree focused upon stress-related issues for H&S consultants and managers but time and economics has reduced my resources and ability to keep this as fresh as I would like. It may be something I can resurrect to the benefit of other consultants as a Committee Member.

I have a particular drive to help others achieve their potential and have been working currently with an executive cultural leadership coach to understand how his paradigms and associated techniques can be woven through the subject of H&S (avoiding the temptation to solely lay it at the feet of H&S functions) in meaningful practical ways.
