Construction Group members survey results

An online membership survey was undertaken late in 2014 where members of the IOSH Construction Group were asked four specific questions to help the committee understand the expectations of the membership.

The questions were:

  1. What activities would members like the Group to undertake?
  2. What topics would members like the Group to run future campaigns on?
  3. Which external bodies should the Group build better links with?
  4. How could the Group add value for themselves, their sector and the wider construction industry?

The Survey generated in excess of 800 responses out of 12,000 members. This is a statistically significant return indicating that the findings are representative of the wider body of the Construction Group.

Initial analysis of the data was undertaken by the IOSH Networks Team and subsequently by colleagues of the Construction Group Committee who have a specialism in Business Analytics. The high level findings are aggregated together in the info-graphic and spider diagrams which follow.

Specific Findings

Future topics of focus clearly identified include CDM 2015, behavioural safety, leadership and worker engagement and working at height. The survey also indicated that the Construction Group should provide articles on key topical issues, facilitate the sharing of best practice, maintain a set of resources for the membership and distribute regular e-bulletins and newsletters.

There was also an expectation for the Group to build stronger links with the HSE, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC). Group visibility and leadership, facilitating CPD support and mentoring also featured in the responses.

Future Construction Group Strategy

The Survey results provided a clear insight into the direction that the Membership would like the Construction Group to take. These findings, the IOSH Corporate Strategy and industry developments will be used by the Construction Group to develop a future strategy and plan. Once the strategy is finalised we will need your support and assistance to deliver it.
