Mark Holmes gave a presentation on the 87 delegates, on the subject of ‘Hazard and  Risk – Looking Beyond the Obvious’. 

Meeting Summary

Mark is an occupational hygienist, and a member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). The session was structured around a definition of occupational hygiene, drawing on case studies from the speaker’s experience as well as from other sources.  

It was proposed that health & safety professionals have a responsibility to anticipate and identify health hazards in in their workplaces, to evaluate risks, and to ensure that appropriate controls are in place to maintain worker health & wellbeing.  

The session included exercises on workplace hazard identification, and pictograms used in line with the Classification, Labelling & Packaging Regs.  There was also a demonstration of air monitoring & other occupational hygiene monitoring equipment.
