Technical visit to Universal Studios

IOSH Singapore Branch held their second Technical Visit on 7 September - hosted by Universal Studios and Resorts World Sentosa.

12 September 2013

The 3 1/2 hour tour included a detailed briefing by Daniel Cuffe Director, Safety and Compliance Resorts World... Sentosa Attractions - where he explained the safety management systems and safety tools used to instil the robust safety culture within the organisation. We then had a briefing from Andrew Chew - Maintenance Director - who explained the strict PMS that is implemented at all rides and across the park. Such theme parks and rides are great fun but when mixed with humans they provide a high level of risk to the operator. World class risk management and controls are required to be strictly implemented and followed.

Singapore Branch members were then shown behind the scenes at two rides including the new Transformers ride - where some of us took the opportunity to experience the ride after having watched it from the main control centre room.

This was an excellent technical visit and a great deal of sharing of best practices at a world class theme park - a great example of embedded safety culture at all levels within an organisation.

Thank you - Resorts World Sentosa and Daniel and his team for sharing with us on this occasion.
