Technical Visit to Marina Bay Fire Station

On 13 July IOSH Singapore Branch held a technical visit to the newest fire station in Singapore at Marina Bay; hosted by the Singapore Civil Defence Force and CPT David Leong and his team from the fire fighting sections.

15 July 2013

All,

We all had a great 3 hours; a detailed presentation was given by MD Azhar with regards the common fire safety violations he finds during site visits. He also explained aspects of the Fire Regulations and how they are dealt with, with regards to fines and court action.

All the IOSH members had a great experience trying out some of the fire fighting equipment such as breathing apparatus and a fire fighting extinguisher combined unit used from the quick response motor cycles, and the experience of holding a fire hose while the flow pressure reaches 5-6 bar !!!

The common feedback from all 21 members and guests who attended the visit was that it was a great experience to hear and see how the fire fighters work, and to learn the common issues faced with regards fire risk management and hazards at the workplace.

Thank you to Marina Bay Fire Station and the SCDF team who were very professional and enthusiastic about their work and sharing with us.

Thank you all for coming along to this visit I hope you all enjoyed it and learned from the event as much as I did (or more).

I have attached the some photos from the event for you.

A couple of other things - don't forget to up date your IOSH CPD/IPD with details of the event and what you gained from it.

A reminder that on the 30th July we will have our networking/social meeting at the YMCA on Orchard Road (open to members and non members) - all we ask is you let Kenneth know that you would be coming so we can establish numbers (approx) for food and drinks - a formal notification of this will be going out this week.

Thank you and Best Regards

Darren Brunton CFIOSH
