Networking night

21 July 2015

On 10 July our Branch held a networks evening at the Marriott Hotel Orchard Road, along with the great company and catching up with fellow members – and the usual excellent food buffet we heard a presentation from Julie Holden who works at Jacobs in the process safety management industry in Singapore. Julie gave a excellent presentation on ‘What is a Safety Case’; going over some history of why Safety Case’s have been introduced into the high risk industry’s and followed into what a safety case is with regards to content, structure and compliance.  Taking lessons learnt from Texas City 1947 and again in 2005, Flixburough Explosion 1974, Bopal Disaster 1984 and more recent ones – it seems there is a great deal to learn and do to make such systems safe. The safety case plays a serious role in achieving this. Singapore will be introducing the New Safety Case legislation in 2016, this presentation was a very good insight to the requirements to establish such a management tool. There were several questions and the evening rounded off with our group photo while looking forward to our next event at Marina Barrage on 31 July.
