Dubai conference

On 29 April 2015 branch members attended the Dubai Annual Conference, the conference held each year by the Middle East Branch and brings together members across the UAE. Presentations included a range of varied and interesting topics such as ‘Difficulties of HSE in Utilities sector’ by Michael Huggins; ‘Engaging Middle Management’ by Ahmed El Hadidi; ‘Better Safe than Sorry’ by Jala Mardana; ‘The bubble of confidence – a discussion on effective bench marking’ by Ian Harper; and a wrap up by Andrea Tithecott who gave a very informative presentation on handling accident and regulatory investigations – which covered some case studies with regards legal responsibilities of safety personnel in foreign countries.

There was a considerable amount of networking during the breaks and lunch, and it was great to meet old friends and fellow safety professionals from UAE. There was a small display of company/sponsors products and of course some excellent food for lunch.  The branch's team attendance was a first for Singapore where we supported other branch seminars in such strength. One of the aims of attending was to review and established a similar conference in Singapore in the future – which the exco will be working towards.
