Jackie O’Neill CMIOSH

My history with IOSH.

I have been an IOSH member for approximately 11 years, 8 of which as a Chartered Member and in August 2016 I achieved Fellow Chartered Status. I was delighted to be the first Female in Northern Ireland to receive Fellow Status and I will encourage other Women to follow in my footsteps.

I have been actively involved in the IOSH Committee over the last five years, four in the role of Secretary and one in the role of Vice Chair. I was delighted to be elected Chair of the Branch at the AGM in May 2107.

My Objectives

I will continue to be an ambassador for IOSH and work closely with the NI Committee to develop the branch. My main goal as Branch Chair is to continue to forge and develop relationships with likeminded bodies and build on the strong foundations already in place whilst also supporting our members in their professional development. I will seek to engage with key decision makers and other professional bodies to create new opportunities to share best practice in promoting a healthy and safe workplace.

My experience

I have been involved with health and safety for 22 years and my main focus of experience lies in the Construction Industry.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work overseas with a large Northern Ireland Construction company and this provided valuable experience in terms of dealing with different cultures and perceptions of health and safety. Skills and knowledge

For many years I was employed as a lecturer for the local Colleges and Universities in the North West. Lectures and Training included Information Technology to HND level alongside NVQs levels 4 & 5.

I developed and ran a successful Health and Safety Training Organisation for 14 years until I sold the business in 2013. I currently operate a Consultancy & Auditing Business and my experience lies in developing & Auditing IMS systems. I enjoy Health & Safety Training, particularly the more complex courses which offers a challenge in terms of ensuring my own CPD is up to date.

Specialist skills

I am an IRCA IMS auditor. This is a demanding and incredibly busy job. I am a specialist business mentor and have trained in this area for a number of years.
