Stewart Melvin

Stewart completed 22 years with HM Forces (Army) and was involved in the Training and Management of Health and Safety as part of his Army career management development.  He found that he “quite liked it” and wanted to make a career of it when he left the service.

Stewart completed his NEBOSH Certificate as part of his resettlement in 2008, secured a job working offshore in the North Sea sector and worldwide carrying out Rope Access, Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and Lifting Gear Inspection work.

He started studying his NEBOSH Diploma in 2012 by distance learning, gaining the qualification in 2014 and has also gained experience as a Lead Auditor by leading numerous QHSE supplier and internal audits.  He was admitted as a Graduate Member of IOSH in 2014 and will hopefully complete the process for Chartered Membership in 2016. He is also a Member of both the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Stewart has many transferrable skills to bring to the field of Health and Safety gained both whilst serving with HM Forces and within the Oil and Gas sector and hopes to utilise them by volunteering as a Committee Member of the North East of Scotland IOSH Branch.
