Photograph of Andy McNairI started my journey in the field of Health & Safety in 1999, inspired by my father who chose the same career path after 33 years’ service in the Royal Air Force. He assisted as my guide and mentor for several years whilst building up my skills and knowledge.

I now consider myself an energetic and highly motivated Health & Safety Professional with over 18 years’ experience within the construction industry working both in the Utilities and Major Civil Engineering Infrastructure. I have a genuine and sincere passion for health and safety and believe that through positive engagement at all levels we can ensure people go home safely at the end of each day.

A proactive leader with a proven track record of delivering a positive health and safety culture within this sector. Committed to behavioural safety change in the workplace which is driven by influencing people’s views and beliefs, I actively encourage new and safer ways of working through working methods and new innovations in the industry.

Holding a strong passion for “Safety by Design”, I believe many challenges faced on a day to day basis can be eliminated at the design and concept stage by working closely with Designers ensuring they understand their duties and responsibilities. This is achieved by engagement at an early stage to ensure all risks are assessed and suitable mitigation measures are implemented thus providing operational teams with sufficient information and instruction to undertake work in a safe and controlled manner.

Having led and successfully delivered many health and safety campaigns with demonstrable evidence of how this positively changed the culture within the business. I am honoured and proud to have been elected as an active IOSH Committee Member and look forward to sharing and contributing my knowledge with other individuals, organisations and businesses within the region.
