I served a technician apprenticeship back in the 1970’s and then went onto have various senior positions in Facilities Management within retail distribution before deciding to take up health and safety as career back in 2001. I became the Facilities/Health & Safety Manager for ASDA at one of their large regional chilled/frozen distribution centres, employing around 800 colleagues. In 2007 I was fortunate to be approached by a young and upcoming ‘in-night’ distribution business, ByBox Holdings Limited, to manage health and safety across their national distribution business. Since that time I have improved the Quality Management System (ISO9001), successfully implemented a Health & Safety Management System (OHSAS18001) and Environmental Management System (ISO14001) across the business. Other accolades include a ‘merit’ for the last four years in the British Safety Council International Safety Awards and most recently achieved the British Safety Council 5 Star Audit for the ByBox main distribution in Coventry and we have also gained accredited to Safe Contractor for managing sub-contractors. I am currently the Director of SHEQ and head a department responsible for the strategic implementation of safety, health and welfare, environmental and quality initiatives across a national operation employing in excess of 900 people.
