On the 23rd of November, they hosted an event for the IOSH Ireland East Branch members in their training centre in Dunboyne Co. Meath.  Speakers at the event were Mr Willie Ryan Director of SHEQ and Allan McFadden, Operational Director.

Mr Ryan’s opening presentation explained how Actavo are on a journey to achieving zero harm and that training has played a major part in achieving this. Actavo promote a culture of continuous professional development whereby each employee is taken through a process that first establishes self-responsibility which then builds into a common set of values for the benefit of all.

Members were then invited into the custom built training centre where the dedicated Actavo trainers gave us a sample of what trainees undergo during a rigorous training and induction process.  Everything from special access rope climbs to customer relations is covered.  Members could see first-hand the benefits of training for high risk activities in a safe and controlled environment.

In the closing address Mr McFadden explained how closely the operations and SHEQ departments work together to achieve a common goal.  They make a substantial investment every year in the training of their staff and this pays dividends in customer acquisition and retention.

Actavo have demonstrated that the right approach to safety training has a big impact on safety behaviour.  The training they provide teaches their employees, in every country they operate in, the necessity of the controls in place and leaves a lasting impression on them.  Actavo employees don’t think “I have to do this right” they think “I want to do this right”.
