Branch update 2014

The 2013/2014 Branch CPD Program is well underway now with the first 4 events already taken place. As always we take a break in January and look forward to getting back together the first Thursday (6th) in February. Each year the Branch Committee work to put together as varied a program the main aim being to provide a varied range of relevant and interesting subjects that will enhance your continued development as a safety professional.

20 January 2014

We started the year with a great talk by Colin Todd on Fire Risk Assessments which was very well attended. This was followed in October with Fiona Gelling from IOSH talking about The IOSH CPD and IPD programs and how they help members maintain and upgrade their professional membership. In November we welcomed Laura Cameron from Pinsent Masons and she gave a great legislation update and insight into some of the issues currently going through the courts. December saw us run our third Safety Café and despite the worst storm for many years it was great to see so many people make it along. The buffet was popular and thanks to all who hosted a table.

The remaining program is listed below. All the events, other than the site visit, will be held at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness, starting at 3:00 PM on the first Thursday in each month. The Branch will provide tea, coffee and biscuits from 2:30PM onwards, allowing you to meet and catch up with old friends and new faces.  All IOSH members are welcome and we are happy to accommodate other individuals and business associates who may have a particular interest in the afternoon’s presentation.

As a Committee we are very keen to make our events and other IOSH information available to you regardless of where you live in the Highlands and Islands.  We continue to look at alternatives and are exploring ways of using digital technology to allow you to access the CPD events recorded onto the Branch microsite on the national IOSH website. Where possible we will also be making the speakers’ material available on the microsite.

Please contact Iain Henderson (Chair) or Ian Soden (Secretary) with your views on how best we can reach those of you who are unable to attend at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness. We would also like to hear from members on future subjects to be covered at the monthly CPD events, topics need not be solely related to health or safety but could just as well cover the development of new professional skills.

Please make a note of the CPD dates, block out your diary and come along to the Kingsmills to get a valuable input on a subject that you may not normally deal with. We look forward to seeing you throughout the forthcoming season!
