BSc (Hons) Microbiology/Genetics; MSc Public Health Engineering (water and waste treatment); Postgraduate Diplomas in Occupational Health & Safety (Dip H&S) and a Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management (Sp Dip EM). Chartered Member of IOSH and a Chartered Member of the Royal Society of Biology.

Brenda has over 30 years experience in science, microbiological research, water and waste treatment engineering, occupational health, safety and environmental management in a wide range of industries from construction, utilities, waste management, broadcasting, printing and packaging, food and pharmaceutical manufacturing to heavy engineering and latterly fire and rescue services. Formerly Head of a Microbiological Research Department in industry in the UK, followed by research on the value of in-vitro genotoxicty testing to identify industrial chemicals as carcinogens and reviewing occupational exposure levels for a Provincial Government in Canada. In the UK she spent a number of years as an HM Inspector of Health & Safety with the HSE. Head of Service roles covered both strategic planning and managing occupational health/safety/environmental units servicing large scale operational activities.

Currently a member of the IOSH Research Committee, since 2013.
