Mike is an OHS professional who focuses on the areas of human factors and life long learning for all.

Over the years he has worked in both the private and public sectors. His career has spanned across automotive, retail, distribution, broadcasting and corporate events industries and for last 16 years in working in higher education.

Mike is a member of the National Executive Council of the UK’s largest trade union UNISON, he was elected by members in the unions South West region, 90,000 of whom deliver services to the public across both the public and private sector, including utilities, environment and transport industries.

As part of his role he actively works with employers and the HSE to consider strategic approach to health and safety issues facing higher education and workforces as a whole including the emerging of new potential hazards resulting from research developments. He is actively involved in development and delivery of training to the unions health and safety representatives across the South West.

Mike’s technical background enables him to apply logic based probabilistic cause and effect modelling to project management, emergency planning, accident investigation and management of risk. He combines this with his knowledge and experience of staff engagement, health and safety, employment and equality law, to engage with all levels of the workforce, from the on the frontline through to those in the boardroom.
