The establishment of ‘Knock Airport’ (as it was known at the time) is a well-known and remarkable story dating back to the 1980’s, subject to much public debate and media attention. Thirty odd years on from its official opening, the airport continues to grow and grow with its busiest year ever last year where passenger numbers reached 780,000 for the first time in the airport’s history. Core to the airport’s success has to be high levels of safety, security and compliance with various aerodrome and national regulations. One aspect of that is the provision of an onsite emergency rescue and firefighting service and general fire safety across the site.

Bryana Hindle – H&S Officer: Introduction
How we implement, monitor and strive to improve Ireland West Airport Knock’s safety, health and welfare policies, procedures, safe systems of work and practices as part of an integrated management system incorporating Aerodrome and Airfield Operations, Rescue and Fire Fighting, Air Traffic Management, Commercial Outlets and Administration.

Pearse Concannon – Head of Fire and Security: Fire Safety
What onsite emergency response (rescue and firefighting) and contingency procedures are in place, how they are tested and general site fire risks controls and mitigation.
