IOSH’s South Wales Branch is pleased to announce details of the conference and exhibition that it’s organising as part of the South Wales Safety Groups Alliance. With the aim to improve the safety, health and wellbeing of all employees and others in South Wales, the other members of this alliance are the Wales IIRSM Branch, the South Wales Construction Safety Group, the Cardiff & South East Wales Occupational Health & Safety Group, and the Swansea & West Wales Occupational Safety Group.

The strategic aim of the alliance is to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of all employees and others in South Wales, taking a holistic approach. We believe that together we are stronger and better able to make a difference. This conference will cover the six strategic themes in the recently published strategy for Great Britain’s occupational health and safety system ‘Helping GB work well’ through which the HSE is seeking to influence the system over the next five years.

These six themes are:

  • acting together - promoting broader ownership of health and safety
  • preventing ill health – highlighting and tackling the costs
  • managing risk well and sensibly - simplifying risk management and helping businesses to grow
  • supporting small employers – giving SMEs simple advice so they know what they have to do and how to manage their responsibilities
  • keeping pace with change - anticipating and tackling new health and safety challenges
  • sharing success - promoting the benefits of Great Britain's world class health and safety system.
