In a strong safety culture, everyone feels responsible for safety and pursues it on a daily basis.

In the Food and Drink Industries Group we are passionate about improving safety standards across our industry and we are looking to leading organizations to share their experiences with others who want to change their own safety culture.

In the latest of our culture change workshops, we invite representatives from other food and drink companies to join the team from British Sugar, to learn how they brought their health and safety vision and mission to life, creating a strong safety culture across their whole organisation.

About your hosts

British Sugar are the leading producer of sugar for the British and Irish food and beverage markets, processing around eight million tonnes of sugar beet and producing up to 1.4 million tonnes of sugar each year.

As the sole processor of the UK’s beet sugar crop, British Sugar work in partnership with 3,500 growers. Sown in the spring to grow through the summer, the harvested crop is processed at one of four advanced manufacturing plants.

The Newark facility last year turned 1.1m tonnes of sugar beet into 250,000 tonnes of sugar. It employs 135 staff and an additional 30 to 40 workers during the beet campaign.

The visit aims to share the experiences of British Sugar in developing and implementing safety culture change and driving overall safety performance.
