Nominations committee

A chance to join one of the most influential IOSH committees.

This committee has vital responsibility for recommending appointees to the IOSH Board of Trustees and other standing committees in the IOSH governance structure.

Members selected to join the committee make sure the most suitable candidates fill key roles in our governance structure by recruiting via open, fair and professional processes. This includes shortlisting and interviewing against specific competencies.

As a committee of Council, it plays an essential part in helping IOSH attract and appoint the best talent to enable us to achieve our strategic aims and objectives. The committee’s recommended appointees will go on to make some of the most important decisions affecting the future of your Institution and help shape the way we run our professional body.

What are the benefits of getting involved?

Volunteering your time as a Nominations Committee member means you can play a key role in making sure our Board and standing committees are filled with the most suitable candidates and that the recruitment process is fair and open.

Graham Parker President

IOSH President and past Nominations Committee member, Graham Parker, explains that as a committee member “you have a direct impact on the Institution’s working groups by being part of the only committee reporting to Council that makes all recommendations for the appointment of Trustees and Standing Committee members.”

He also found his time serving on the Nominations Committee “a great way to understand how the Governance and different elements of our Institution works”.

It’s a way to demonstrate your abilities, to develop your professional contacts and to put something back and according to current Vice-Chair, Graham Frobisher, it’s an opportunity to make an “excellent career step".

Who can join?

We encourage you to volunteer for this committee if you think you have the right combination of experience, insight and commitment and a keen interest in IOSH governance and leadership.

To be part of the Nominations Committee we ask that you have an understanding of how IOSH operates as an organisation, knowledge of and experience in recruitment and selection, plus an up-to-date CPD record.

Although not essential, we would also like you to have knowledge and experience of people management, development and training methodologies as well as working with other professions.
