Member advisory panels

Members of this committee provide advice and guidance related to their specialist knowledge.

As a way of contributing to making the world of work a safer place IOSH provide a wide-range of practical health and safety guides. Providing such high quality guidance is a key part of IOSH thought leadership and corporate social responsibility activities and it not only supports professional development and delivery but helps a myriad of non-practitioners to better understand and fulfil their responsibilities. To help maintain and develop our guidance portfolio, the Policy Division has established two Member Advisory Panels.

The first of these ‘Document development panel’, works with head office staff to identify and evaluate ideas for new guides and produce proposals for possible commissioning from authors. Panel members will have an excellent appreciation of other people’s information and guidance needs and how best this can be delivered. Work will take place electronically, supported by an annual workshop. Members will need to be able to devote around 5 days per year to this role. Applicants should note that because of the need for impartiality, Panel members will not be commissioned as authors.

The second Peer Panel Review supports the first. It is an absolutely essential element of the document development process and helps to ensure critical appraisal and quality control for IOSH published materials. Panel members will ensure they are well-informed and take a rigorous and evidence-based approach to their review work. Work will take place electronically and there will be no requirement to meet. Members will need to be able to devote around 4 days per year to this role.
