Getting your course approved

Do you want to develop your own course? Have you already developed one? Would you like the added credibility of IOSH approval? We can guide you through the development process and help you get your course approved.

Many trainers are running health and safety awareness courses they've developed themselves. Others would like to write a tailored course – one that addresses the issues of a specific company or industry.

For example:

  • you may want to develop a version of the IOSH Managing safely course especially for your company
  • perhaps you're already running a course focusing on the hazards that are relevant to a specific industry, such as Managing safely in construction, and decided you want third party accreditation
  • you may want to develop an entirely new course, such as an induction course for new members of staff, tailored to the needs of your company.

Whatever your subject, and whether you've already developed a course or are thinking about developing one, we can help. This is called our Tailored course approval service.

We approve general health and safety awareness training courses of people at work, up to a UK national level 2 (GCSE level). Throughout the process, we offer support, technical checks and help with good practice.

Our Tailored course approval service will help you produce an IOSH approved course that suits the needs of your clients, delegates or workers.

Why do people develop their own courses?

Some trainers simply feel more comfortable developing their own course rather than buying a training package. Others want a course for a specific organisation or sector. Either way, approval by a recognised professional body will add credibility to the course.

There are financial benefits too - trainers tell us that their clients value the IOSH name which helps them to sell more courses and gives them an edge over others.

Trainers welcome the IOSH name behind their course because it helps to ensure confidence in the training materials.

Whatever the reason for developing your own course, we're here to help and guide you.
