17 May 2013

May 8th saw the Humber Branch
embrace the winds of change by encouraging members to attend a
topical half day seminar in the shadow of the landmark Humber
Bridge. Challenges in Renewables was the latest in a busy
diary of events from the Humber Branch and with the participation
of Siemens Energy Services, drew over 70 members to experience the
Siemens Zero Harm journey, an Environmental, Safety and Health
initiative rolled out across the organisation.

Ken Anderson, Head of EHS for Siemens Energy
Services delivered an excellent translation of their journey into
an interactive 3 hour presentation including theory, video clips
and the use of the very visible Zero Harm vehicle, piloted by his
enthusiastic associate Lionel.

The challenges of a complex engineering system
coupled with inhospitable environments, diverse safe systems and
human factors were discussed and members were invited to ‘get on
the bus’ to play their part in encouraging safe behaviours across
industry.

All who attended this dynamic and informative
event enjoyed the day and took away something useful. We can
all learn from the Siemens model and if we all get on the same bus,
the destination is zero harm.

The IOSH Humber Branch takes pride in
producing informative meetings and seminar events which are
published on the Branch web pages.

Award

24 October 2012

Humber Branch would like to congratulate
Jay Lingard for his achievement in receiving the President's
Distinguished Service Award.

Jay held the position of treasurer since the inception of the
Humber Branch in 1999 until April 2011 and always worked tirelessly
and professionally, to support the Branch.

In addition to competently filling the role of Treasurer, he has
supported the membership as a mentor, safety professional and even
entertainer when called upon to perform at branch social events. He
has a friendly and open approach to everyone, which made him a
popular member of the Executive Committee and a source of friendly
support to the branch members.

Jay delayed his retirement by one year, to train the new Humber
Branch treasurer to ensure that a smooth transition was
observed. He has acted as mentor and guide to Ray Bone,
ensuring that he was familiar with all aspects of the budget and
accounts before deciding to retire from the Humber Branch Executive
Committee at Branch AGM in April 2012.

With his long service at the branch, he provided each new
committee with historical and at times amusing information to guide
and advise them. Jay’s contribution and commitment to the
Humber Branch and his enthusiastic and tireless commitment as an
Executive Committee member will be missed.

Being a recipient of a President’s Distinguished Service Award
recognises his commitment and long service to IOSH, the Humber
Branch and the safety profession as a whole.

The award was presented by Tim Briggs, IOSH Vice President, at
the Northern Networks meeting.
