    IOSH

Many countries have ageing workforces, with retirement ages rising and working lives becoming longer. Older workers are a valuable resource and make a positive contribution to organisations. We need to ensure safe and healthy working conditions for all.

  • IOSH management of occupational road risk policy

    IOSH

An estimated quarter of road traffic accidents in Britain involve someone at work, meaning workers were potentially involved in a substantial number of the 1,780 reported road deaths and 22,830 people seriously injured in 2015-16.

As work-related road traffic accidents are a significant cause of preventable death and injury IOSH believes that more should be done to protect people from the hazards.

  • IOSH SMEs policy

    IOSH

In 2015, there were 5.4 million small- or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK, which was 99.9% of all businesses. SMEs provide 60% of all business employment, representing 15.6 million employees and 47% of turnover.

IOSH believes that supporting SMEs and improving their health and safety performance is vital for reducing work-related injury and ill-health and for boosting productivity and sustainability. We urge others to join IOSH in providing this.

  • IOSH reporting performance policy

    IOSH

Many organisations recognise the benefits of voluntarily publicly reporting on their health and safety risk management and, increasingly, they are obliged to provide this under non-financial reporting requirements.

IOSH advocates meaningful and comparable occupational safety and health performance data in internal and public annual reports, as a driver to improvement and we recommend a holistic approach to business risk management.

  • IOSH rehabilitation policy

    IOSH

We know that 'good work' is good for health and wellbeing. Among other things, this means work that's safe, supportive and accommodates people's needs. We also know that positive perceptions about work have been linked with higher productivity, profitability and staff retention.

IOSH advocates a holistic, proactive approach to managing health and rehabilitation issues at work. Everyone should work together - workers, managers, general practitioners, human resources and health and safety professionals.
