World Class Olympics, World Class Industry
21 February 2012
This evening IOSH will be in
Westminster taking the business case for health and safety directly
to Members of Parliament.
In front of both the
Employment Minister and his Shadow, former IOSH President Lawrence
Waterman will highlight how sensible risk management meant that the
Olympic Park was built on time, in budget and with zero
fatalities.
Employment Minister, Chris Grayling MP said,
“I’m delighted IOSH is continuing to promote the business case for
sensible health and safety in Britain. Responsible employers
recognise the benefits of providing safe and healthy working
conditions and that this helps maintain a productive workforce and
contributes to economic prosperity and growth.
"The Government is making health and safety
easier to understand by cutting red tape but we are also looking to
those who are getting it right to help lead by example. The Olympic
Park development is a fantastic example of getting it right and
showing that managing health and safety well is essential for
project success, efficient delivery and good reputation.”
Andrew Baldwin, IOSH Public Affairs Adviser,
said, “IOSH has thousands of examples just like the Olympic Park,
where businesses have taken health and safety seriously and saved
substantial amounts of money. Taking these examples straight
to Parliament can only enhance the perceived value of our
industry.”
