Thames Valley Branch scoop President’s Alliance Award
16 March 2011
IOSH’s Thames Valley branch was awarded the
President’s Alliance Award last night at the IOSH 2011 Conference
in London.
The new award was launched this year by IOSH President Steve
Granger to commend the hard work of the Institution’s groups and
branches.
Thames Valley was presented the award as a result of their
excellent community engagement when sponsoring the National Film
and Television School’s Award for health and safety.
Branch Chair Chris Stops said: “We are
delighted to have received this award, our hard work on this
project has really paid off.
“For four years we have supported the
National Film and Television Schools award for best safety plan.
Not only have we learnt a lot about the film industry but the
students have also learnt about good health and safety.
“Each year, we’re faced with a number of
excellent films to judge for the award. The film that is selected
as the winner for the best health and safety plan also receives a
cheque for £1,000.”
All in all, nine projects were put forward to IOSH’s VIP panel
of health and safety experts for judging. Projects included: the
Aviation and Aerospace Groups Airside Safety Induction DVD, South
Downs Branches Maintaining Local Treasure and West of Scotland’s
Certificate of Merit.
Steve said: “As a former branch chair, I know
just how much time and effort is spent by the committees and
members organising events and planning initiatives that will enable
the wider community to engage with occupational health and
safety.
“We sometimes share our success with each
other but I think wider recognition is long overdue, and that is
what the President’s Alliance Award is intended to redress.
“Thames Valley branch have consistently
invested in their local community by supporting the National Film
and Television School. Not only have they raised the profile of
health and safety within the film industry, they have also raised
the profile of IOSH.”
