IOSH rallies round for troops
21 December 2011
Each year IOSH staff support a number of
selected charities as we are passionate about making a difference
and supporting local organisations in Leicestershire.
This year's project, with the Leicester branch of
Support Our Soldiers, was lead by staff member Andrea
Alexander and IOSH's social committee.
Thirty-two Christmas boxes were packed and wrapped by IOSH staff
for troops this Christmas. Although a lot of troops have already
made their way home, some will still remain over Christmas and will
have to forgo being with their families at this time
of year.
Staff at IOSH, already in the spirit for Christmas, wanted to
spread this holiday cheer and donated much needed supplies of
chocolate, tinsel and games, all essential items for the holiday
season.
We were then extremely pleased to receive a letter from Sergeant
Paul Levin, of 1st (United Kingdom) Armoured
Division and Signal Regiment, and his crew.
Sgt Levin said: "Operational tours are never easy, especially
being away from family and friends at this time of year. It is also
very difficult, not just for myself but also
my detachment crew, at this time of year as we are very
reliant on each other for support.
"But when members of the public, strangers that we have never
met, take the time to donate and then pack the Christmas parcels
themselves, it is greatly appreciated."
Social committee representative Claire Ball said: "It was
truly a pleasure to be involved in this project and spread our
Christmas cheer to the troops.
"We couldn’t have done this without the support of IOSH staff
and a big thank you to Amanda Crowden, of Support Our
Soldiers, who dedicates her own time to coordinate these
projects."
