IOSH 2011-environmental management book launched
15 March 2011
The new edition of Essentials of environmental management has
been officially launched this afternoon, at the IOSH 2011
conference and exhibition.
At the launch, the authors, Paul Reeve and Paul Hyde,
presented on the hot topic of carbon and environmental management.
They talked about how greenhouse gas emissions and climate change
is affecting all organisations, especially given the world’s
current dependency on fossil fuels and consequent emissions of
carbon dioxide. They also addressed how carbon is now widely
regarded as the most pressing global environmental problem.
The third edition of Essentials provides a comprehensive
introduction to managing environmental issues, at both operational
and strategic levels, and focuses on:
• the issues and principles underpinning environmental
management
• the key elements of an effective environmental system based
on the ‘plan, do, check and act’ cycle (including ISO 14001)
• the main operational controls and approaches to continually
improve performance
• strategic environmental pressures and how to address them,
including carbon management strategies
• how environmental management contributes to wider business
concerns, the process of sustainable development and the corporate
social responsibility agenda.
About the book, Paul Reeve said:
“Essentials is a valuable reference for health and safety
practitioners in general, and participants on environmental
management courses in particular. It offers a definitive text on
the principles of environmental management, tailor-made for
professional training (notably IOSH and the Institute of
Environmental Management and Assessment examinations). It is also
used extensively by health and safety practitioners and other
professionals as a handy reference source.”
Paul Hyde added:
“Thousands of IOSH members now cover health, safety and
environmental management in their everyday remit. To get the most
out of environmental management, organisations need people who can
understand, communicate and apply its essential and, in some cases,
distinctive principles – this book will help you do that.”
