What's the damage?
The cost of accidents and ill health - call for data
15 September 2011
As part of its Li£e
Savings campaign, IOSH is planning to develop a bank of costs
for common accidents and ill health cases. We hope to draw on
the expertise and experience of our members in creating the
resource.
Says Caroline Patel, Head of Campaigns at IOSH:
“A central resource of typical costs, based
on genuine industry examples, will help businesses – whatever their
size, whatever their sector – make quick, rough calculations about
what their own health and safety failures cost. We’ve seen that
costs can act as a real wake-up call for senior managers, prompting
them to take action.”
If you have carried out work at your business to calculate the
full costs associated with a common accident (eg slip/trip/fall) or
ill health case (eg manual handling-related back injury) and are
happy to share it with others in the profession, then
please let us know. All costs
published as part of the resource will be anonymised.
