Lack of bathroom results in fine

Posted Wed, 08 Feb 2012

A building company has been hit with a £2,000 fine due to not having adequate bathroom facilities for employees on one of its sites.

CR Construction (SW) Ltd already had an Improvement Notice issued to another of their sites in Thornbury and were therefore aware of the necessary requirements, Bristol Magistrates' Court heard.

Following a visit in June 2011 to the site on Pembroke Road, Bristol, health and safety inspectors found a lack of a proper washing and welfare area, describing the site as falling well below the minimum standard.

Inspectors discovered that the required facilities on the site, where up to 16 builders and employees worked, had not been in place for the entire year the site had been open.

Firm CR Construction (SW) of Tereslake Green, Bristol admitted breaking Section 33 (1) (c) of the Health and Safety at Work regulations and were given a £2,000 and ordered to pay £2,014 in costs.
