Boy hurt in building site accident

Posted Tue, 13 Dec 2011

A young boy was seriously injured when timber trusses fell on him on a building site in Scotland, a court has heard.

The eight year old had got into an unsecured storage area on the BDW Trading Ltd site near Paisley when the incident happened in April 2009. He suffered a serious injury to his liver and abdominal bleeding when the trusses fell and trapped him, Paisley Sheriff's Court heard.

He spent eight days in hospital following the incident on the development, which was not far off being finished at the time. The Health and Safety Executive brought the prosecution against BDW trading after finding that the site wasn't sufficiently fenced-off.

BDW Trading Ltd, of Barratt House, Cartwright Way, Forest Business Park, Bardon Hill, Coalville, Leicestershire admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work act. A £20,000 fine was handed to the firm over the incident.
