A boat building firm has been fined £26,666 after one of its employees suffered multiple fractures to his leg when he was knocked off some steps.
Stephen Thompson, 59, from Southampton, was on three metre-high steps when a scissor lift hit a shelf causing a piece of wood to knock the steps over.
Mr Thompson sustained four fractures to his leg and had to spend over two weeks in hospital during the Christmas period.
Green Marine Ltd was in the process of closing down its factory in Spitfire Quay, Southampton before moving to a new location when the incident happened.
The firm was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive for a dangerous lack of organisation, planning and control during the winding down of the factory.
Green Marine Ltd, of Hythe Marine Park, Hampshire, admitted breaking Regulations 3(1) and 5(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
The company was given a £26,666 fine and order to pay £6,163 in costs.
