Smartphones cause workplace worries
Posted Mon, 06 Feb 2012
The use of smartphones and tablet computers has led businesses to worry that their ICT security may be more at risk, a recent poll has revealed.
The study by Damovo found that 68% of IT directors think that employees bringing personal devices to work may make their company more susceptible to online intruders. According to Blue Coat Systems, this is now becoming the norm.
Nigel Hawthorn, Vice-President of Marketing EMEA at the firm, explained that as the devices are becoming increasingly inexpensive and are used for both personal and work purposes, they are frequently appearing in the workplace, despite the wishes of some employers.
Mr Hawthorn said: "The idea of trying to stipulate exactly what devices people use is impossible now."
Smartphones and tablets are now used so extensively that many people often use the same device to store information needed in the workplace and at home, making it difficult to leave them behind.
