Worker breaks pelvis in tipper fall

A company in Devon has been fined £6,000 over an incident in which a worker fell from a tipper truck and broke his pelvis.
Chippenham Magistrates' Court heard Lee Waters fell because Mole Valley Feed Solutions failed to provide the basic safety measures for staff while using the trucks.
Mr Waters, of Devizes, was removing the cover to the truck's load when the incident occurred in July last year at the company's feed mill on the Porte Marsh industrial estate.
He slipped on the steps of the lorry and fell onto a concrete floor below. Mr Waters, who was 34 at the time of the incident, broke his pelvis and wrist.
He was in hospital for a week, and remained off work for 11 weeks. Doctors have also told him he will regain only 80% of the strength in his wrist.
Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, it was found Mole Valley Feed Solutions, of Station Roads, South Molton, Devon, failed to comply with health and safety measures.
The company pleaded guilty to the charges brought before it. As well as the fine, Mole Valley Feeds was ordered to pay £4,087 in costs.
