300 evacuated after bakery blaze

Posted Fri, 30 Jul 2010

A blaze at a bread factory on Thursday resulted in 300 employees being evacuated.

Warburtons Bakery in Bolton, Greater Manchester, had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a large industrial oven at approximately 2.50pm.

Before the fire was brought under control smoke could be seen from across the town streaming from the site in Hereford Road.

Sixty firefighters and 10 pumps attended the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said on Thursday: "We believe that the fire started from machinery and then spread elsewhere.

"We are working with the on-site management to get the shift workers back into the factory as it is a 24-hour operation."
