Posted Mon, 26 Oct 2009
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire in a Tesco store in South Wales.
Shoppers were evacuated after the fire broke out in the clothing department of the store in Merthyr.
There were no injuries, but one person was treated for smoke inhalation.
Five fire crews from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service took two hours to deal with the blaze. They said the task was made easier by the store's sprinkler system.
Six firefighters ventilated the building and isolated the store's services while two wore breathing apparatus and fought the flames.
Station manager Nigel Williams said: "I would like to commend the initial actions of Tesco staff in evacuating the store and attempting to fight the fire."
South Wales Police police said one woman was arrested on suspicion of arson while the incident was being investigated.
