Hello and welcome to
Connect
Although Professor Löfstedt’s report on
UK health and safety has been published, there’s still a lot of
work still to do to influence what happens next – and this is where
you come in...
Although details have yet to be finalised, the UK’s Employment
Minister Chris Grayling announced plans to begin a major cut back
of health and safety red tape as early as next month. The
Government will begin an immediate consultation on the abolition of
large numbers of health and safety regulations and intends to have
removed the first rules from the statute book within a few
months.
We’ll be providing details of those consultation documents on our
website with a view to getting as many members as possible engaged
in the process and, hopefully, influencing the future of many
regulations up for review. Keep an eye on future issues of
Connect and also on our website.
In this issue of Connect, we take a look at last week’s
unfolding events in both Whitehall and Brussels and ask: does the
Government have an agenda when it comes to health and safety, and
will it take Lofstedt’s recommendations as a green light to cut
legislation even further?
We also have a short film from the European Parliament in Brussels
where we talk to IOSH Chief Executive Rob Strange and the report’s
author, Professor Löfstedt.
As usual, we have the latest industry
news, your Branch and Group events together with CPD dates and
details of our Professional Development courses.
If there’s anything you’ve seen in Connect you want to
comment on, please drop me a line.
Thanks.
