Worker seriously hurt by lawnmower

Posted Tue, 19 Jun 2012

A worker who was cutting grass on a slope had to be airlifted to hospital after becoming trapped under an industrial lawnmower.

The incident occurred on Watsons Green Road in Dudley, West Midlands, when it is believed the mower toppled over and trapped the man underneath.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman commented: "The man had suffered a particularly serious traumatic injury to his chest as well as lower leg and back injuries."

The 54-year-old man was helped by members of the public, who contacted the emergency services, before he was airlifted to hospital by the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire.

"The man was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and was given pain relief before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where medics were on standby to receive him," the spokesman added.
