How can I join a Group or change the Group I'm
in?
If you'd like to join a Group, contact the Membership Department (+44
(0)116 257 3198) to have your chosen Groups added to your IOSH
membership.
How much does it cost to belong to a Group?
Joining one Group is free as part of your IOSH membership. We
charge an administrative fee of £10 for each extra Group you join.
There are no limits to how many Groups you can join.
Can I join a Group if I'm not a member of
IOSH?
You can join a Group without joining IOSH. But the costs are the
same as when you join IOSH as an Affiliate Member, without all the
other included benefits.
What are the benefits of joining a Group?
Joining an IOSH Group gives you:
- invitations to regular networking events, seminars and site
visits, often at reduced rates
- access to a wide range of advice and information for your
sector
- opportunities to volunteer your skills and knowledge to help
others
- the chance to contribute to legal consultations that have a
direct impact on your industry
- opportunities to join campaigns and projects that champion high
standards in your industry
- help with developing and maintaining your professional
status
- network opportunities with health and safety professionals in
your sector
- the latest best practice from collaboration with other
organisations.
What's the difference between a Group and a
Branch?
A Group is made up of members who share health and safety
interests related to a specific industry sector. A Branch is made
up of members working together to raise health and safety awareness
in a particular geographical area.
How can I get information on my Group?
You'll receive your Group's news and events listings through our
e-bulletins, Connect and Connect Diary. There's
also an overall Groups news page on the IOSH website, as well as
individual news pages for each Group. Also, Groups publish articles
and events in the Safety and Health
Practitioner (SHP) magazine.
If you belong to a Group and aren't receiving Connect or Connect
Diary, please contact Shaun Gibbons, E-editor.
How can I get more involved in my Group?
There are many ways you can be more involved in your Group,
including:
- filling a committee vacancy
- commenting on consultative documents
- joining an advisory panel
- attending events
- mentoring other members.
For more information, please visit the Get
Involved webpage.
How can I start a new Group?
There are two ways of starting a new Group – either through the
Council of Management or by a member-led process. In both cases,
you'll need to focus on and define the proposed Group's vision and
describe how you'll realise and support that vision. Applications
are reviewed on behalf of IOSH Council by the Groups Management
Committee. If you're interested and would like to know more, please
contact the Groups team.
If we haven't answered your question or you'd like more detail
about the answers we've given, please contact the Groups team.
