How do I join a branch/district?
Your IOSH membership includes free membership of a branch. We
recommend that you join a branch local to either your home or place
of work. If you contact the branch liaison team they'll be
able to tell you which is the closest.
How do I change my branch/district?
You can change your branch at any time during your membership of
IOSH. Please contact the branch liaison team and they'll be
happy to update your record.
Can I belong to more than one branch/district?
No. You can only be a member of one branch but can attend any
free branch meetings. If you need more information, please contact
the branch liaison
team.
Do I have to commit to attending branch/district meetings?
No. We understand that you're busy and your time is precious.
However, the free networking and learning opportunities available
to you are worth investing some time in. Coming to meetings can
also help your CPD. Have a look at our events
calendar for branch/district meetings.
I'm not a member of IOSH. Can I still join a
branch/district?
No. Some branches will let you attend some of their events as a
guest. However, if you find these events interesting, it would be
worth joining IOSH to take advantage of
free or discounted access to all available
events.
What are the benefits of joining a branch/district?
You'll be able to attend free or low-cost branch events in your
local area, giving you networking opportunities with health and
safety professionals in your area.
Why are there districts as well as branches?
Some branches cover a large geographical area. By creating
districts and offering more events in different locations, we can
help members who would find it difficult to attend the main branch
venue.
How often are branch and district meetings held?
On average 8–10 meetings are held each year. Most branches and
districts don't meet in July or August as this is the peak holiday
period. Have a look at the Events calendar
for branch events.
How do I get information on a branch/district?
By receiving Connect and Connect
diary, our new weekly email bulletin, you'll have access to
industry and IOSH news, branch and group information, events,
features, jobs and more. You can also get information from the IOSH
website and the Safety and Health
Practitioner (SHP) magazine.
Are branch/district meetings free or do I have to pay?
Most branch meetings are free but there is a charge for some
events, such as site visits and seminars. We always show the cost
when we advertise events.
How do I get more involved in my branch/district?
There are lots of ways you can get involved – take a look at our
'Get involved' page.
What is the difference between branches and groups?
Branches provide health and safety support at a local level.
Groups are industry specific and aren't based in a particular
location.
What is a branch section?
This is a sector-specific group set up within a branch. Not all
branches have created sections – they do so in response to their
members' needs.
